Thailand's new LTR visa allows you to live, retire, start a business or work in the kingdom for 5 and 10 year periods as long as you meet certain financial requirements. Who qualifies for this visa?

Persons who qualify fit into 4 areas:

  • Wealthy global citizens
  • Wealthy retirees

Wealthy Global Citizens

A "Wealthy Global Citizen" is someone who needs to have at least 1 Million USD in personal assets, personal income of at least 80,000 USD per year, and able to invest at least 500,000 USD in Thailand through government bonds, or real estate.

Wealthy Retiree with 40K - 80K USD per year Income

A "Wealthy Retiree" must have an income of at least 40,000 USD per year and invest at least 250,000 USD in Thailan government bonds, other type of foreign investment or Thai real estate.

Wealthy Retiree with 80K USD or more per year Income

This wealthy retiree only needs to have an income of at least 80,000 USD per year. No investment in Thailand in required. No special banking deposits or requirements are needed (unlike the normal retirement visa). 

Remote Worker with 40K - 80K USD per year Income

This "Remote Worker" is considered a person working for a global public or private company that has a combined income of at least least 150 Million USD over the past 3 years (average 50 Million USD per year). But because of the lower income, must have a Masters degree or above, or hold intellectual property, or have Series A funding in their business. They must have at least 5 years of experience in their field.

Remote Workers with 80K USD or more per year Income

A "Remote Worker" is considered a person working for a global public or private company that has a combined income of at least least 150 Million USD over the past 3 years (average 50 Million USD per year). They must have at least 5 years of experience in their field. With the higher income, this individual does not need to show any educational qualifications.

Highly Skilled Professionals

These are people who will be working for specific industries in Thailand, or with the Thai Government. Please contact us if you need to discuss this category.

What other requirements are there?

  • Health Insurance of at least 50,000 USD per year value (or 100K USD social security deposit)
  • Proof of income and net worth
  • Proof of employment (for remote workers)

How long does it take to qualify?

It takes at least 20 business days to be vetted for this visa as the Thailand BOI needs to validate your documents.

Yes! You can start a business. Register a company in Thailand and get a Digital Work Permit. There is even a special dispensation that you do not have to employ 4 Thai citizens.

Can I become a permanent Resident in Thailand?

With just the visa no. But if you get a work permit, as with all work permit holders you can apply for permanent residence in Thailand after 3 years.

What is the application process for LTR visa?

1.Application Submission 

Register and submit online an application for qualification endorsement for LTR Visa and supporting documents.

2.Qualifications Endorsement

Within 20 working days after having received complete documents, applicants will be notified of the result.

3.Visa Issuance

Qualified applicants may proceed with applying for LTR Visa issuance at the Royal Thai Embassies/the Royal Thai Consulate Generals overseas or Immigration offices in Thailand within 60 days from the issuance date of the endorsement letter. The processing fee for the 10-year visa with multiple entry is 50,000 Baht per person in case of collecting LTR Visa in Thailand. In the case of collecting LTR Visa at the Royal Thai Embassies/the Royal Thai Consulate Generals overseas or E-visa, fee may vary depending on the currency exchange rate of each country.

4.Digital Work Permit Issuance

Applicants who work in Thailand, may collect digital work permits at the Department of Employment at One Stop Service Center for Visa and Work Permit, Chamchuri Square Building, Bangkok or provincial labour offices. The processing fee is 3,000 Baht per year to maintain digital work permit.
