Who is this visa for?

The Thailand Special Tourist Visa (STV) was introduced as an economic measure to help restore tourism in Thailand due to the effects of COVID-19. The STV allows foreigners to visit Thailand for up to 90-Days, which makes it perfect for those who want to travel around for a longer time. This visa is for tourism purposes only. 

Thailand Special Tourist Visa Qualifications

Foreigners from low-risk countries in accordance with Ministry of Health regulations

Provide proof of residence (and payment) for accommodation during the long visit.

How long does it last?

This visa is valid for 90 days.

Is it renewable or extendable?

The STV is initially valid for 90 days and can be extended for another 90 days two more times providing a maximum of 270 days of validity. The extension can be done at any Immigration office in Thailand.

Which countries qualify?

Nationals of all countries are qualified to apply for this visa.

Application Requirements

  • Proof of accommodation such as:
    • Paid Hotel booking.
    • Condominium title deed if accommodation owned by a visitor of a family member
    • Evidence of rent if renting an apartment or house.
  • Have medical insurance policy during your entire stay in Thailand with a minimum coverage of 10,000 THB  for outpatient care and 400,000 THB for inpatient care
  • Passport with at least 12 months of validity
  • Confirmed Flight booking to Thailand
  • Certificate of criminal record clearance from your country of nationality (not required for all countries)
  • Medical certificate from the country of application or Thailand stating that you do not have diseases including leprosy, Tuberculosis, Elephantiasis, drug addiction, and third stage of Syphilis. (not required for all countries)

Financial Requirements

There are no special financial requirements to get the Thai Special Tourist Visa. You just need a paid reservation for accommodation for each 3 month segment of your trip.

Can I convert the STV into other types of visas?

No, you may not convert the STV into other types of visas.

Do I need the re-entry permit when leaving Thailand?

The STV is a single-entry visa. If you leave Thailand during this period, the visa will be cancelled. You would be able to re-enter Thailand under a normal tourist visa.

Can I work in Thailand with an STV Visa?

No.

When is the Thai STV scheme valid?

The end date for the application of the Thai STV is 30th September 2022. Make sure you check your local Thai embassy/consulate before you apply in case of regulation changes regarding the STV. We are not sure at this time if the STV Visa will be renewed after September 30, 2022.
